Let us start from the very beginning
Hello, dear friend! Вітаю, любий друже!
You are here, and this means that you are interested in learning the Ukrainian language - the official language of Ukraine.
You are probably aware that Ukrainian is considered to be one of the most beautiful languages in the world, after French and Italian.
At the same time, many English speakers who have tried to start learning it, admitted that they found it too difficult and confusing. Unfortunately, most of them have gave up trying.
So, I have decided to do my best to help those people who knows English and would like to learn the language of my beloved motherland - Ukrainian.
It is known that if you wish be able to speak a language, you need to listen to it alot, and try to repeat. If you wish to be able to write correctly you need to read alot, and then practise. Personaly, I usually don't rely on my ears only, I need to see the written version of the word to be sure I've got it correctly. let's start with the alphabet.
The good news is that Ukrainian is a "phonetic" language. That means you can look at a written word and know how to pronounce it. Or you can hear a word and know how to spell it.
Ukrainian uses a version of the Cyrillic alphabet. The modern Ukrainian alphabet consists of 33 letters. 21 of them are consonant, and 10 are vowel (а, е, є, и, і, ї, о, у, ю, я.). The letter "й" is regarded as consonant before "o", and as vowel in other positions. The letter "ь" has no sound, it is used to soften the previous consonant.
